  • 6 ounces fresh mozzarella pearls
  • 1 demi baguette
  • ½ cup basil pesto
  • gel food coloring (black)
  • 12 ounces cherry tomatoes
  • olive oil
  • salt
  • black pepper
  • red pepper flakes
  • fresh basil for garnish
  • balsamic vinegar glaze

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Place mozzarella pearls in a silicone skull mold and bake for 6 to 7 minutes until slightly melted.
  3. Increase oven temperature to 475°F (245°C). Halve cherry tomatoes, place cut side down on a parchment-lined baking sheet, drizzle with olive oil, and season. Roast for 10 to 15 minutes.
  4. Cut the baguette into ½-inch slices and toast in the oven for about 8 to 10 minutes.
  5. In a mixing bowl, combine basil pesto with black food coloring until desired color is achieved.
  6. Spread black pesto on each baguette slice and return them to the oven until edges are golden.
  7. Assemble by topping each slice with roasted tomatoes and mozzarella skulls, then drizzle with balsamic glaze before serving.
