Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks / 227 g) unsalted butter (softened)
  • 32 ounces confectioners' sugar (sifted)
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons whole milk (up to ½ cup)
  • Pinch kosher salt

Instructions

  1. In a stand mixer bowl with the whisk attachment, beat the softened unsalted butter on medium-high speed until light and fluffy (about 3 minutes).
  2. Add pure vanilla extract and mix until well combined.
  3. Set the mixer to low speed and gradually add confectioners' sugar until incorporated.
  4. Pour in whole milk and sprinkle in kosher salt; scrape down the sides of the bowl frequently.
  5. Increase speed to medium-high and whip for at least 3 minutes for a fluffy texture; longer if desired for extra fluffiness.
  6. If too thick, add more milk one tablespoon at a time until reaching your desired consistency.
