Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup white granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 10 drops of red food coloring or 1/4 tsp of coloring gel
  • 10 drops of blue food coloring or 1/4 tsp of coloring gel
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar, plus more if needed

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until smooth. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  2. Sift in the flour, baking powder, and salt; mix until fully combined into a thick dough. Cover and chill for at least one hour.
  3. Preheat your oven to 350°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Divide chilled dough into three portions.
  4. Color one portion red and another blue using food coloring; leave the last portion plain.
  5. Roll about half a tablespoon from each color to form a ball; coat each in powdered sugar twice.
  6. Bake for 12-14 minutes until tops are crackly yet soft in the center. Cool on wire racks before serving.
